Nature of game

The players have a 4x4 game board to play. On this, they can place 16 pieces, all different following four types:
  1. 1st set of pieces:
  2. 2nd set of pieces:
Each piece is unique; with 16 pieces we have all the possible combinations. The pieces are in commun to the tow players (in particular the color don't distinguish player, not like we used). In beginning of game, the pieces are beside the board.

Align 4 pieces on the board with one or more type in common. This line can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

The game is win by the first player to tell KATRO.

Specificity of game

About game strategy

In Katro have a basic rule : the piece that you place is choose by your opponent! In other word, you can only win by abstraction of your opponent or whether you build a configuration that reduce him choose.

Katro is a subtle game, it's please particularly to young player. The board become quickly limited and confused. Consequently, the players forget some types of pieces; one player of tow can exploit this to win.

Without the fact of careless mistake, this game put an interesting problem : how force your opponent to give you the victorious piece. And above all, when the trap is ready?

In fact, at the beginning, players choose and place random pieces. But quickly, one player limit the choose by drawing an align of 3 pieces with common type. The player done a bet, because he don't known who take adventage of align.

So strange, but Katro have interrest whit only collaboration between players. If a player close systematically align of 3 pieces, the game will be often null.
